Today; my class is having Lab the morning. We are suppose to test the compressive stress of Product we achieved ( Adding Polyl and diphenylmethane diisocyanate or MDI)
The reactants are are using are very toxic so all of us have to wear a mask & googles when we are handling with the chemicals. :D
In the tests, we have to do comparsions.
Team 1 - 0 ml of water is added (with Polyl & MDI)
Team 2 - 3 drops of water added ( with Polyl & MDI)
Team 3 - 6 drops of water added ( with Polyl & MDI)
Team 4 - 9 drops of Water added ( with Polyl & MDI)
From the research i found, Polyl contain "OH-" and when it react with "MDI", it will produced Carbon dioxide gas. This is a condensation Polymerization. Carbon Dioxide is the By-product. In the below image, you can see that the increase of Water, affects the shape & size of the foam. This is because When more water is add, more carbon dioxide is produced.:)

Next; Facilitator requested my team to do the experiment with 20 ML of water add. So below is the product we got!

My teammates have difficulty cutting the foam! The foam is so hard, it can be used as a Surfing Board. After cutting the foam to the required size, we will used the compressive machine, to test what is the maximum force to compress the product.
